Ten reasons to believe in the word of God - the Bible
Section I

The Discovery Series from Radio Bible Class Ministries gives at least ten undeniable reasons to believe in the Scriptures as the word of God:

1) Its honesty: It is painfully honest – even its main characters who are otherwise chosen people, are exposed of their sin and shortcomings. Jacob, Moses, David, Barnabas, Saul (Paul), and Peter are just a few examples. Scripture was clearly not written for those who want simple answers or an easy, optimistic view of religion and human nature.

2) Its preservation: The Scriptures that are printed versions of the original texts have retained their originality in content. The Dead sea scrolls are evidence to discredit the claims that the original Bible had been lost to time and tampering. In fact, a lot more manuscripts of the Scriptures are available today than any other secular or religious literature.

3) Its claim for itself: The human authors inspired by the Spirit record it as the Word of God in their writings quite often mentioning “thus says the Lord”. It is not relying on the readers and commentators to be certified.

4) Its miracles: The exploits that men did in the name of God and the wonders that the Son of God Himself performed were unprecedented – the absence of which would set the Scriptures as one other book. In fact, the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is the greatest miracle that the world has witnessed and has been recorded in the Bible which is the basis for the Christian faith and has been the very reason for people dying for it.

5) Its unity: Nearly forty different authors writing over a period of 1,600 years penned the sixty-six books of the Bible. Four hundred silent years separated the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament from the twenty-seven of the New Testament. Yet, from Genesis to Revelation, they tell one unfolding story – His-story. They all deal with the vital “Why” questions of life. It interprets itself with absolutely no contradiction.

6) Its accuracy: Bible’s historical, geographical, and scientific accuracy has been proved time after time by professionals and intellectuals. Visitors to museums and historical sites cannot help but come away impressed with the real geographical and historical backdrop of the biblical text. The numerous astronomical, physical, chemical, and biological discoveries over the centuries agree to its “scientific”ness.

7) Its endorsement by Christ: Jesus Christ endorsed the Bible as God’s word. He recommended the Bible not only by His words but by His life. In times of personal temptation, public teaching, and personal suffering, He made it clear that He believed the Old Testament Scriptures were more than a national tradition. He believed the Bible was a book about Himself.

8) Its prophetic accuracy: A major portion of the Bible is prophetic and has proved its accuracy not in one, but all of its hundreds of fulfilled instances w.r.t the place, time, and other details; many are happening now; the rest are waiting to happen – the inevitability of which we can see in the present-day events. Central to the prophecy was the promise of a Messiah (Old Testament and Gospels) who would save God’s chosen people from their sins (Gospels and Acts), establish peace in their hearts (Acts and Epistles), and eventually bring judgment to the whole world (Epistles and Revelation).

9) Its survival: While the Scriptures were written long before any other “holy” book was written, no other book has so consistently been bought, studied, and quoted, and as loved or as hated as the Bible. The Bible is still the book by which all other books are measured.

10) Its power to change lives: History is marked by those who have been bettered by this book. The Ten Commandments, the Psalms of David, Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, and Paul’s description of love are some mentionable scripture portions that have directed, consoled, encouraged, softened, and healed lives. It has made a huge difference in the lives of real people over centuries who have believed it – Apostle Paul, Augustine, Martin Luther, John Newton, Leo Tolstoy, and C. S. Lewis, to mention a few. Even entire nations or tribes – the Celts of Ireland, the wild Vikings of Norway, the Auca Indians of Ecuador, and even the hill people of North East India – have been transformed by the Word of God and His word.
