His-story and His enemy Satan & his uncouth ambition after the Fall
Section I

The Bible talks about Satan’s uncouth ambition after his fall from heaven:

For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. – Isa 14:13, 14. Being cast to the first heaven (when referred from the earth – earth’s atmosphere), Satan also had access to the earth (Job 1:6; Job 2:1). He had access to the Garden of Eden. (Eze 28:13); he sought to thwart the plan and upset the purpose of God even there. How would Satan endure the humiliation he faced by being cast out of heaven? How would he accept the purpose that intended to bring more sons to glory when he himself has lost his place there? How would he survive an existence of curse and shame when being ridiculed as a being less than an animal for the rest of his days? How would he bear the pain of remaining prostrate on the ground forever? How would he tolerate the disgrace of eating dust all his life? How would he put up with God’s plan of exalting one of His creations when he himself had lost this privilege?

Satan could also go to and fro on the earth and could walk up and down in it. (Job 1:7; Job 2:2). He could observe what was happening there and could consider (closely observe) the believers (Job 1:8; Job 2:3) and keep a vigilant watch on the believing line so that he would destroy them despite his unsuccessful attempts to do so. He also brought accusations against even God’s chosen as in the case of Job and Joshua the priest. He is rightly called the accuser of the brethren. (Rev 12:10). He could be in constant communication with the fallen angels so that they would execute his commands and run his errands. He continues to deceive them. Being cast to the first heaven, he could also prevent God’s message from reaching His servants. He could use one of his principalities called the Prince of the kingdom of Persia (that he threw to the ground by his tail) to stop one of God’s messengers to bring the answer that would console and encourage Daniel who was mourning for three weeks.

Satan did not want to submit His will to God, His creator. He sought to do his own will. He said, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars (Seraphs, Cherubs, and other angels) of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation (Zion), in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.

God wanted to show Satan that in man, there is a Creation that would submit to His will, server Him wilfully, and remain faithful to Him. They would be ultimately blessed with the highest blessing – of being his Sons and sharing His glory (that Satan lost) to live with Him forever.

Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see you shall narrowly look upon you, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man (Thamizh Bible says – Is this the one?) that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own house. But you art cast out of your grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that goes down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet. You shalt not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. – Isa 14:12.

Satanic attack is different from Satanic/demon possession. Believers are in a continuous battle with the evil spiritual world. The devil invariably keeps attacking the mind of the chosen ones without giving up his hope of tumbling them down. He brings his lie against God’s truth and makes the believer doubt the Lord. This battle happens in the mind of the Christian. That is why the Bible not only warns us about the “sin that easily besets us” (“stands pressing closely” as per the Thamizh Bible) (Heb 12:1) but also advises us to continually renew our mind (Rom 12:1). We are also to guard ourselves and fight against him always, clad with the whole armor of God (Eph 6:11-17).

Satan is not omnipresent – he can possess people only one at a time. Nevertheless, his demons are in millions and they can possess people (or even animals) not just one but even many at a time to cause severe damage. The devil can (1) assume a human form (this might have been the case when Satan came to tempt Jesus after His forty-days fasting) or (2) assume a beast form (as he might have done in the garden of Eden) or (3) possess a human being and make the person his dwelling place, for a moment or temporarily (as he did when he spoke to the Son of God through Peter) (4) send one or more of his fallen angels (4 a) to take human form and cohabit mankind (as they did just before the flood of Noah’s time) or (4 b) to possess a person for a longer period (as in the case of the man possessed by a legion (seven thousand?) of demons / evil spirits) or (4 c) keep possessing the person intermittently (as in the case of Saul the first king of Israel) (4 d) dwelling in a person continually and take full control of the person – spirit, soul, and body, until the soul is hijacked to hell (as he did to Judas who betrayed Jesus). Mercifully, such demons can be cast out from the possessed by believers in the Lord Jesus Christ Who has given them the power to do so (4 e) Some evil spirits keep pestering and buffeting the believers physically (as did one with Apostle Paul even after He received great revelations and remained faithful to his Lord) but always under the purview of the Lord, encouragingly so. And the Lord keeps supplying His grace to such believers. Thank God!

Satan knew about the fatal blow that the Seed of the woman would inflict upon him and his subsequent destruction (Gen 3:15); he sought to escape from both somehow. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever. – Rev 20:10. So, he kept injecting his seed of unbelief continuously into the human race (resulting in rebellion) to prevent his Destroyer from arriving at the proposed battlefield – the earth. This is the secondary theme of His-story.
