Jesus on Earth as the Son of Man
Section II
Fast-forward…
So, God sent His only begotten Son as planned when it was time for His incarnation.
Jesus was born of Mary while she was still a virgin. The Gospel according to Doctor Luke (who was a physician) is emphatic on that. Then said Mary unto the angel, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?”. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. – Luke 1: 34.
Again, Matthew, a former tax collector and disciple of Jesus, confirms this in his version of the gospel. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Matt 2:18. This was prophesied earlier during the time of Isaiah approximately six hundred years before the long-anticipated event occurred. Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. – Isa 7:14. And (Joseph) knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. – Matt 1:25.
Jesus Christ was the promised Seed to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Seed of the woman. The one Seed that God had warned Satan of. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel. – Gen 3:15. And she (the believing Israel) brought forth a Man Child, Who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. – Rev 12:5. The one Child that the great red Dragon had been dreading. The one offspring that the devil was terrified by. The one Christ that the Old Serpent shuddered at. The one Son of God that the evil one was afraid of. The one Son of man that the demons trembled at.
Jesus came by water and blood – not by water alone. This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. – 1John 5:6. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second Man is the Lord from heaven. – 1Cor 15:47.
Jesus is the second Man-isan. This is why He is identified as Isan by the Tamil poet Subramaniya Bharathiyar. He is also called Isa in the Quran. This term Isan, in the course of time, transformed into Easwaran and Iswar and Parameswaran / Parameshwar.
Jesus had flesh and bones in His natural body as well as His glorified body. The Second Adam Jesus came by water and blood – not by water alone. The first Adam came by water alone. A major component of the human body is still water. When Adam took part in the forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil, sin entered mankind. Sin caused blood to flow in his veins and arteries. What is supposed to circulate life in the body (by carrying Oxygen through its hemoglobin) sadly became the cause of death in mankind – physically as well as spiritually. Flesh received life and started dominating the soul of man This is why God said, “The life of the flesh is in the blood” – Lev 17:11 and ruled, “Without shedding of blood there is no remission” – Heb 9:22. Thank God, Jesus shed all His blood for our sake. For this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. – Matt 26:28.
Jesus Christ was mistakenly supposed to be the son of Joseph and Mary. So, the Jewish people and a significant number of His followers and disciples (including Judas Iscariot) considered Him as the Son of David (Joseph and Mary, both belonged to that line) and that He would establish a Jewish kingdom by delivering the Jews from the hands of the Roman rulers of the time. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? – Matt 12:23. They expected the Christ to be born the son of David, but little did they realize that Christ would also be the root of David and his Lord, the everlasting One. And Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit Thou on my right hand, till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool. David, therefore, himself calls Him Lord; and whence is He then his son? – Mark 12:35-37.
They thought that He, the Jewish Messiah, would be an earthly ruler. In fact, the disciples popped up this question even after His death and resurrection at the Mount of Olives from where He ascended to heaven.
Scarcely did they know that He was not only the Jewish Messiah but the Messiah (Christ), the Son of the Living God who is the anointed King of the Kingdom of God that includes the Gentiles as well. All Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews) who are born again enter this Kingdom. – John 3:3, 5. Interestingly, Jesus Himself said this when He was being questioned by the Judean Governor Pontius Pilate. Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world: if My kingdom were of this world, then would My servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is My kingdom not from hence”. – John 18:36.
Only on the day of Pentecost (fifty days after the Jewish Passover festival) did even Peter realize that the Kingdom Jesus meant was a spiritual kingdom that was ushered in by the advent of the Holy Spirit who was sent from heaven to dwell among His people forever. The real meaning of his confession is, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”. – Matt 16:16 started sinking in only then.
