Chapter 114
The Great Deception: Jesus will reign as King of the Jews from Jerusalem
Section III
The lie: The first time Jesus came a little more than two thousand years ago, He came to His own – the Jews, but they rejected Him. They did not believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah. So, God has stopped His prophetic clock and has now turned His attention to the Church (a second thought!). He has been building it for the last two thousand years. But there is coming a day when Jesus will return gloriously (phase II, after the rapture of the Church which is phase I). The prophetic clock will tick again. Then the Jews will receive Him as the Messiah. All Jews in Israel will be saved. Jesus will reign from Jerusalem, the capital of Israel and the whole world.
The truth: Jesus was born the Saviour of the world. While not every Jew believed in Him as the Messiah, there was a chosen lot that accepted Him as the Christ, the anointed One, as per their Psalmists and Prophets. The unbelieving Jews even preferred the criminal Barabbas to be released in the place of Jesus – a deliberate choice. Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. – John 3:19. Then they put Him to death. (Some Jews argue that they did not put Jesus on the cross, it was the Romans who did that heinous crime, but the world knows who did it). Then, they tried to suppress the fact of His resurrection by bribing the guards at His tomb.
When the Jews rejected their Messiah, God cut them off the Olive tree as they failed to produce fruit. They were the fig tree cursed forever as they were hypocrites not producing fruits yet outwardly showing forth leaves.
The Jews dragged to the Council His disciples who witnessed the risen Christ and testified of His saving grace to the multitude in Jerusalem. They scourged them, beat them, stoned at least one of them to death, and drove most of them out of Jerusalem. The Jews kept pursuing the disciples wherever they went and created trouble, provoking the general public (not the Jews only) to persecute them. Some Jews arrived at places even before the disciples arrived (either for religious or trade reasons) and stirred up the people that heard the gospel preached to them by the Spirit-filled followers of Christ. (Some Jews were in Rome even before St. Paul arrived; a significant number of Namboodiris (Jews) were in Malabar even before St. Thomas arrived!)
The Jews were (and are) scattered all over the world beyond identification or unification, but they posed the main challenge to the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere – and they still do, even in India!
Paul says not all Israelites are true Israelites For, they are not all Israel, which are of Israel – Rom 9:6 – only the believing lot are the children of Abraham. They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. – Rom 9:8. Paul also says (quoting Isaiah’s prophecy) that this is only a remnant – a small number when compared to the large population of Israelites spread across the world. Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved. – Rom 9:27. And this Jewish remnant is being brought into the Church of God by the same gospel that brought the Gentiles into the saving faith. But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved, even as they. – Acts 15:11. Paul continues, “There is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” – Rom 10:12, 13.
God doesn’t have two different salvation plans, one for the Gentiles and another for the Jews. Apostle Peter said so to the Jewish church in Jerusalem. One way, Jesus. And, ‘now’ is the acceptable time. The ‘Two Salvation Plans’ concept was propagated by Darby and carried into the Dallas Theological Seminary and into the Scoffield study bible. Many modern-day theologians have gulped this false doctrine and have ventured to write ‘best sellers’. Many others have become famous end-time preachers after reading these misleading books. The Bible has now become a reference book instead of it being the textbook for these preachers.
Even though the same gospel was preached to them, not all have believed their report and not all have obeyed the gospel of Christ. – Rom 10:16.
But for His grace and mercy, the whole of Israel would have been lost forever as He did to Sodom and Gomorrah. – Rom 9:29. Thankfully, God has not rejected His people forever. No. Paul says he himself is proof that God has not cast away His people, lock stock, and barrel. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. – Rom 11:2. God always had His people in history – His-story – who would believe and obey His word and would not bow to Baal or team up with Satan and participate and contribute actively in Satan’s attempts to foil God’s plan and frustrate God’s eternal purpose. …Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us (even the Jews) into the kingdom of His dear Son – Col 1:13.
Paul states that the salvation of Gentiles would provoke the Jews to envy and would lead a remnant (not all of them) to salvation. If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh and might save some of them. – Rom 11:14. Both natural branches that were broken off and have been grafted back and the wild branches – Jews and the Gentiles – are borne by the Root that is Christ. Not all branches that have been broken off will be grafted back they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in – Rom 11:23. Faith is the key differentiator between the broken-off and the grafted. Believing Jews will be re-grafted into the natural olive tree.
And so, all Israel (all believing Jews of today, the real Israel: For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly. – Rom 2:28. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel – Rom 9:6) shall be saved: as it is written, there shall come out of Sion, the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sake: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sake. For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief. Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that He might have mercy upon all. – Rom 11:26-32. This “Deliverer” has already come whom the Jews rejected. The next time He is coming as their Judge. Every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him. – Rev 1:7. Here is what Enoch of old said of this event: “Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him”. – Jude 1:14, 15.
Jesus is the King of the Jews, but He is the King of the Gentiles as well. (Pilate, are you there?). He is the King of His people whom He has redeemed with His own blood and claims them as His own. He reigns now and will reign till all His enemies are subdued. For He must reign, till He hath put all enemies under His feet. – 1Cor 15:25. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. – 1Cor 15:26. While the Lord Jesus Christ has already triumphed over death when He rose from the dead, He is waiting for this victory to be realized by His saints. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. – Rom 16:20. He is waiting for the day when the saints will join their Head with a shout of Victory over death. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So, when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? – 1Cor 15:51-55.
Jesus will not be demoted to an earthly throne in Jerusalem. He is not ceasing to be a Priest to become a King. For if He were on earth, He should not be a Priest. – Heb 8:4. He is a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. – Heb 7:17. And He will be Priest and King and reign forever. – Rev 11:15. This is what is signified by prophet Zechariah when the Lord commanded him to place a crown on the high priest Joshua’s head: Behold the Man whose name is The BRANCH; and He shall grow up out of His place, and He shall build the temple of the LORD: Even He shall build the temple of the LORD; and He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His throne; and He shall be a priest upon His throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. – Zech 6:13.
Jesus will not sit on the throne of David (throne of the Lord) on this earth because it is cursed forever because of Jehoiachin, the second last king of Judah. – Jer 22:28-30. Even after their return to their homeland, Zerubbabel did not sit on the throne as King – he was only the governor of Judea under the Medo-Persian King Darius. – Ralph Graham, www.simplybible.com .
Jerusalem, the capital of Israel today will be burnt on the day of the Lord which will be the day of His second advent or immediately after this day (most probably the former; especially while considering the following: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. – 2 Pet 3:10.
Jesus will reign forever from New Jerusalem, the heavenly city made of His Redeemed – the Church which is His bride. Their citizenship is in Heaven. (Phil 3:20). New Jerusalem is also called Zion / Sion. But ye are come unto Mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels. – Heb 12:22.
His people will descend from Heaven to the new earth purged of sin – the destination of believers where their God will abide with them forever.
