More deceptions in His-story: Entertainment
Section III
Sin is subtly entering the minds of both the young and the old in the name of entertainment. Filth is sown in the minds of fans (believers included) through songs, dance, painting, sculpture, and other fine arts. A sense of unhealthy competition is deeply ingrained in the mind of individuals who tend to throw away all morals to the wind when it comes to winning, recognition, fame, award, or a trophy.
• Pornography is ruling the world in the name of arts in films and live shows and award-winning entries don’t hesitate to compromise on morals. Alarmingly, 90 percent of boys and 60 percent of girls are exposed to Internet porn by age 18, and 30% of the Internet content is porn according to a Nov 2016 estimate. Computers, tablet PCs, and Smartphones have brought pornography into the homes of believers. Christian parents are not watchful enough of their children who possess greater technological skills. Pictures exchanged through social media are not monitored. Children are bought costly smartphones (one per child is the minimum in a family) when there is no actual need for them during their school years. Christian boys grow up with a mindset that abusing girls and women is commonplace behavior, and this shows up dangerously when they grow up to be adults.
• The film industry is a sewage drain (as quoted by a leading hero in the Thamizh filmdom during the last few decades of the twentieth century who repented and became a believer in his old age) composed of people who have compromised on their morals and are setting a bad example in real life as well as on the screens for the current and future generations. It is totally controlled by Satan; almost all of them, both behind the screens and those in front, worship him for which Satan gives them riches and fame in return. It is very sad to see talented Christians selling themselves to the world to direct films, write lyrics, compose music, play musical instruments, or play an important role behind the screens today (sound mixing, animation, and screen reproduction) to produce films that compromise morals. (Have we ever noticed that the antagonists and bad characters in films always bear an anglicized name like Rosy or Peter?). Watching films (and serials/soap operas) at theatres as well as through cable TV – whether good or bad, science fiction or cartoon – robs people of the valuable time they can spend with the Lord and in doing constructive activities. Moreover, the evil spirits behind the industry enter believers’ homes and defile the spirits of the viewers, thereby breaking entire families by removing love, joy, and peace from the hearts of the husband, wife, and children.
• Rock-and-roll and popular music have gained an important place in the lives of people but most of these are meaningless renditions or songs filled with abominable words, phrases, and statements that pollute the individual mind with vulgarity and blasphemies against God. Christian songs of today contain little or no spiritual sense – they are often repetitions of older songs – more focused on worship by lips than from the heart. Some seemingly good ones also have themes of pacifying the tearful ones – not edifying the spirit and the soul. Indian film songs are the equivalent of English rock music – a lot of them are filled with sexually explicit content but adults and children are equally encouraged to sing such songs on competitive platforms and in the open shamelessly. Many Christian families have Rock and pop music collections as an alternative to Indian film songs, but little do they realize that both are evil.
• Music today is a conglomeration of various noises with the rhythm instruments and heavy-metal dominating the proceedings that throw the audience into a trance leading to evil spirit possession. Believers’ assemblies are no different and have been invaded by this worldly music where the spirit and meaning of the words are suppressed by the noise of the instruments. Dancing and reviling have become “worship” and are designed to entertain the “believer”. Children in Christian families are encouraged to pursue music classes (most of which are Indian film music) at the cost of their walk with the Lord and their participation in the gathering of saints. No wonder, these “budding musicians” move away from God and get entangled in Satan’s net of worldly and film music, courtesy, the so-called God-fearing parents.
• The world of sports is occupying the young minds which is a fast-growing passive audience shouting at the top of their voices for their heroes either at the stadiums or in front of TVs or in social media. Christian children are encouraged to keep fit in their bodies (Fit India) through these sports and games (yoga, gym) while little or no inspiration is given to keep their mind and heart fit for a healthy spiritual life. More time is spent by children of believing families watching sports tournaments and cricket matches which could have been put to use constructively for spiritual and livelihood activities.
• Video gaming is the new drug that gives the players a new high every time they reach a new high score, the scoreboard always challenging him/her to move up further levels with promises of new “lifes”. Christian families – husband, wife, children, and grandparents – all have fallen victim to one or more such games. The time spent on these games is robbing them of their time with God, His word, His presence, and His ministry. Many games are expletive and subtly sexual with children choosing an avatar of themselves and living a false life on the web. They date, they marry, they beget children, they rape, they shoot, they kill, they drive rashly, and they show anti-social behavior in the games they play. This eventually reflects in their real life, ultimately, ruining themselves. The Scriptures have warned us about these kinds of behavior in the last days – The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. – 1 Cor 10:7.
