As the Amazon forests burn, Environmentalism has taken the driver’s seat in political and social forums and seems to be the leading concern of those who frame the policies of nations. They have managed to percolate this idea into the minds of people and have made them believe that this is the agenda of foremost priority because it threatens their very existence. While the environment that we live in is certainly deteriorating and this, at a rapid pace, for many, this has become an obsession; it eats away their time and energy that could be alternately used for furthering the purpose of God here on this earth which is, in any case, reserved for destruction shortly.

• “Cleanliness is godliness” is a cliché today. There are special drives instituted by governments (Swatch Bharath in India) to clean the environment and the surroundings to make it fit for human habitation. However, cleanliness in thought, word, and deed is taking a backseat with morals being compromised in every nook and corner of society. Christian parents fail to teach their children the importance of keeping their minds (souls) clean from the filth of the world. They are not forewarned of the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Certainly, sin is closely surrounding us and does so easily beset us – Heb 12:1 but parents don’t teach their children this lesson anymore.

• Animal welfare is gaining greater importance than human welfare. Killing of animals won’t be tolerated by law enforcement authorities while innocent people would be killed for professing and practicing a way that is different from the religious fanatics. Christian families don’t know that men possess a sixth sense called the soul that sets them apart as humans different from animals. This soul is eternal and can be lost if this does not turn to God. Many children of believers still believe that man descended from monkeys. They are not taught the fact that God created man in His own image, and we are the image-bearers of the holy God.

• BlueCross, SPCA, and PETA are some of the international movements that are striving to prevent cruelty to animals and provide care for the uncared animals while there is a large human population that lacks even basic medical care, one meal per day and clean water to meet their hunger and thirst respectively. There were many Christian friends that gave their supporting voice to the “Save Jallikkattu” movement in Tamil Nadu in the year 2017. Sadly, they don’t lend their voice to Christian causes or for sharing the word of God with the perishing population. Children are not taught the value of food and water in Christian families and so there is more food wasted than consumed in some houses. Refrigerators are filled with leftovers that go to the drain or the waste bins in due course. Remember that Jesus taught His disciples not to waste food – they collected the leftovers in baskets both times when he performed a miracle of feeding the multitude.

• Pet animals are seeking the greater attention of people and a lot of families (and sometimes only one or two dominating members in the family) are ready to spend a fortune to own a rare breed of a dog/s or another animal and a large part of their valuable life on breeding and propagating the pedigree. Christian homes are no exceptions. Some believers spend even lakhs of rupees for owning, feeding, and grooming these pet animals while there are people out there struggling to find one meal a day. Pet animals are one of the main reasons believers stay at home during believers’ gatherings or non-participation in missionary work. They can’t travel as families to do ministry for want of pet-attenders at home.

• Plastics and non-biodegradable materials are certainly spreading like viruses everywhere and becoming a serious threat to land and waterbodies leading to non-productive land and choking of waterways, thereby aggravating the availability of potable water. Air and water pollution are reaching their peak levels due to the overuse of chemicals and heavy burning of fuels. The pollution of the mind caused by degrading social values and the entertainment industry is of no matter to the current as well as the previous generation. Paul insists on wholesome holiness: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless (unpolluted) unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1Thess 5:23.
