Chapter 147
The unexpectedness / unpredictability
Section IV

While all expectant believers will be ecstatic at the glorious arrival of their Saviour, the rest of the world will be taken by shock, surprise, and awe at His coming. His second advent, unlike the first, will happen with a shout, the voice of the archangel and the trump of God, an event during which even those who are in their graves will hear the “noise” and those who live by this hope and in anticipation of this moment will be caught up.

• But know this, that if the owner of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Jesus is the “thief in the night”. (2 Pet 3:10). He would come when we “think not”. (Luk 12:40). Sadly, believers would be complacent and remain unexpectant when He returns. Paul instructs, “Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” – Titus 2:13.

• For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Lest coming suddenly he finds you sleeping. Jesus left “His house”, the Church to His Father’s house. Each believer has been given the authority to exercise and responsibility to render. But He has also asked His servants to “watch”, not to “sleep”.

• Therefore, be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning: All of this is “sleeping time” – “believers” are asleep unaware of what is happening around them while Satan is silently accomplishing his “purpose” of deceiving the masses to upset God’s purpose. All the while, Jesus said, “Watch”.

• Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, that he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; Today’s “servants of God” fleece the innocent believers of their money; they feed themselves with (and gulp) material from the already deceived (drunk); instead of feeding the flock right from the word of God, they feed the sheep stale food gathered from dustbins. The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
