There will be the great “winding up” that will take place. Catastrophe after catastrophe is lined up, calamity after calamity is destined for this earth and its inhabitants. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: He uttered His voice, the earth melted. – Ps 46:6. They (the earth, its foundation and the heavens) shall perish; but Thou remain; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment. And as a vesture shalt Thou fold them up, and they shall be changed. – Heb 1:11, 12. The heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. – 2 Pet 3:12. It might still be this same geographical earth that will be revamped.

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: Matt 24:29
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens (being on fire shall be dissolved) shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2Pet 3:10.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. – 1Thess 5:2, 3.
