Reading the Bible regularly (not for any spiritual reasons), praying repetitively (not understanding that it is a conversation with God, the Father) and attending Sunday Church are considered enough qualifications for earning the favour of God, undermining His grace.

A sanctified life (set apart / unique / different from the worldly people) is essential for a born-again believer so that he grows to maturity unto the full stature of he Lord Jesus Christ. While this is a process (not instantaneous) every believer is being perfected by the Lord Himself through the Holy Spirit within. God looks at the commitment to this sanctification process at any given time in the life of His saint.

Even if the believer's life here might abruptly end at any stage of his maturity, God takes into consideration the commitment and perfects him to be fit for eternity with Him.
