What is the origin of the Phallus (lingam) worship?

Murugan advocated the worship of the phallus (Kandhu in Thamizh means pillar) and therefore is called Kandhan. This he did to encourage rapid population growth post the Flood. This phallus is still “erected” and worshipped in various forms all over the world. It is called Lingam, stupa, minaret and obelisk elsewhere as a symbol of fertility. Many hillocks in South India are considered as natural phallus forms and abodes of Murugan.

The human Phallus (along with the vagina as its base - both the organs of progeny) are held in high esteem by the ungodly idol-worshippers. They believe that these sexual organs hold in themselves the power to procreate life. So they are worshipped by them who still rejected God. God gave them up to perversion resulting in their worship of all things that resemble these private pats of the human body. The stumps of green trees and the obelisks in temples and other places of worship are examples. Some tend to call it a flagstaff euphemistically. It is folly to see such flag staffs in Roman Catholic places of worship.

(Compare this to "ling' in Hindi which means gender).
