What is this unique Name given to Jesus?
Jesus (Easan / Yeshuva) is not a unique name – many had their first name Jesus in the first century AD. Jesus is the Aramaic equivalent of the Hebrew name Joshua meaning deliverer/ saviour, which many in the Old Testament times were named after. So, ‘Jesus’ speaks of the verb “save” that He came to accomplish – (i)Ratchagar / இரட்சகர் in Thamizh.
The name above every other name is most probably “I AM” (இருக்கிறேன் or “Always” according to David Pawson). He was given this name even in the beginning because the Purpose of God was determined and His Plan completed even in the eternity past. It is just the unfolding of His Plan that is happening in Time.
The Lord revealed His Name to Moses in the burning bush. When asked His name He answered, “I am that ‘I AM’”.
None can boast of holding this Name because everyone has a beginning unlike the Lord Jesus Christ: He is the eternal God. In fact, He is the Beginning of the creation of God. That is why, while He was incarnated, He spoke of Himself as the “I AM”.
